This marks a major milestone for the sport and for Tobago as it becomes the new global stage for one of the most extreme diving events in the world. With crystal-clear waters, dramatic coastal views, and a culture of vibrant island energy, Charlotteville is the perfect setting for this unprecedented event.

What Is Døds Diving?

Døds diving, or “death diving,” is a gravity-defying sport that originated in Norway. Unlike traditional diving, it’s not about grace and clean entries—it's about daring, showmanship, and embracing the fall.

Competitors launch themselves from towering platforms up to 10 meters high (sometimes even higher), striking outstretched poses—arms and legs wide—for as long as possible before tucking in just before hitting the water to reduce the impact. The goal? Deliver the boldest, most creative, and fear-inducing dive possible.

The sport merges elements of high diving, snowboarding, and parkour, turning athleticism and courage into a captivating visual spectacle.

The Origin of the World Championship

The Døds Diving World Championship (DWC) officially began in 2008 in Oslo, Norway, though the sport itself dates back to the 1970s when young Norwegians would leap from diving boards for fun, testing each other's nerve and creativity.

What started as a playful act of bravado has evolved into an international phenomenon. Today, the DWC draws thousands of spectators and reaches over 200 million households globally via broadcasters like FOX Sports, DAZN, MBC, and Extreme.

Each year, the top athletes qualify through the Døds Diving World Tour, where they accumulate points at events around the world. Only the best are invited to the grand finale: the World Championship.
